For times when a specific requirement cannot be satisfied from pre-existing imagery, DigitalGlobe has created a flexible and comprehensive set of satellite tasking options. As orbiting satellites have the ability to collect imagery from widespread areas in even the most remote locations, they have become a highly sought-after source for many companies and organizations. DigitalGlobe's high-resolution satellite imagery has been an invaluable component of government, defense, geospatial intelligence, enterprise, and navigation companies.

Flexible Options

The DigitalGlobe tasking framework provides four order options (Select, Select Plus, Assured, and Single Shot) designed to meet a variety of customer needs. While customers may initially choose one tasking option, DigitalGlobe provides options to upgrade to a higher tasking level or extend the time window.

Dedicated experts work with customers to choose windows that provide the highest physical and competitive feasibility for each tasking project.

Advanced High-Resolution Constellation

DigitalGlobe maintains the largest sub-meter constellation of satellites, including QuickBird, WorldView-1, and WorldView-2. QuickBird is a 60 cm, 4-band color satellite, and is capable of collecting multispectral and panchromatic imagery. WorldView-1 is a 50 cm, panchromatic and is also capable of collecting in-track stereo imagery. Similarly, WorldView-2 is a 50 cm, 8-band color satellite capable of collecting multispectral, panchromatic, and in-track stereo imagery.

DigitalGlobe's commitment to custom tasking is a key component to our comprehensive Geospatial Imagery Solutions. We put high-resolution world imagery within reach through a combination of collection strategies, a full ImageLibrary, and flexible delivery options.
Tasking Options
Select: Entry level tasking that offers flexibility to customers to set their own collection window or to accept DigitalGlobe's suggested window.

Select Plus: A higher level of service to customers than that offered for Select Tasking. Customers will see shorter collection windows for Select Plus Tasking (as opposed to Select Tasking) in areas of high competition.

Assured: A high priority option that offers guaranteed delivery based on satellite capacity that is exclusively dedicated to these orders. If in the unlikely event we fail to provide complete AOI as promised, customers will receive archived imagery from our ImageLibrary free-of-charge. We are the only company to offer a guarantee of this nature.

Single Shot: A unique guaranteed-delivery tasking option that should be used when customers have an immediate need for new imagery and when customers require the guarantee that imagery will be collected on or near a specific date. As little as six hours after confirmation of a Single Shot order, we can acquire an image of the specified area of interest.

Basic Imagery products are designed for users having advanced image processing capabilities. DigitalGlobe supplies camera model information with each Basic Imagery product to permit users to perform sophisticated photogrammetric processing such as orthorectification and three dimensional feature extraction. Basic Imagery is the least processed image product with corrections for radiometric distortions and adjustments for internal sensor geometry, optical, and sensor distortions have been performed on each scene ordered.

Delivery
Standard Imagery can be acquired directly from the DigitalGlobe archive or you can submit a new collection request. 8-Band Multispectral Imagery

DigitalGlobe's WorldView-2 satellite provides the only high-resolution 8-band multispectral commercial imagery available. WorldView-2's eight spectral sensors are narrowly focused and provide complete coverage of the visual spectrum, along with two near-infrared bands. Together the bands are designed to improve the segmentation and classification of land and aquatic features beyond any other space-based remote sensing platform.

Applications for 8-Band Imagery

DigitalGlobe's high-resolution 8-band imagery is a powerful tool for remote sensing, and is being applied to three primary areas: Bathymetry, Vegetative Analysis and Feature Extraction.

Bathymetry
8-band imagery offers a significant improvement over four band imagery in the ability to conduct accurate bathymetric measurements from space. The addition of the Coastal Blue band, and the refinement of the Green band are providing significant advantages in measuring bathymetry at greater depths, and the Yellow, Red Edge and occasionally NIR1, are very useful in shallow waters when they correlate with sub-aquatic vegetation, coral or seafloor substrate.

Accurate bathymetry is very important for near shore navigation, and coastal zone monitoring, as the marine environment is particularly susceptible to dramatic changes due to storms, earthquakes and tsunamis.
Vegetative Analysis
The Red Edge and Yellow bands are specifically designed to detect key vegetative phenomena. The Red Edge band marks the transition between where plant pigments absorb visible light, and reflect infrared light. Its position varies dependent on the species, and shifts according to changes in plant health, age, and growth rate. Similarly, the Yellow band can detect changes the amount of leaf chlorophyll and other key pigments that mark vegetation stress.

Vegetative analysis is the key to building detailed land cover classification maps, which are particularly important for mapping changes due to climate change, urban sprawl, and environmental contamination. Land cover maps are also playing an important role in the global carbon trading market, and the ability to monitor deforestation and subsequent reforestation activities.
Feature Extraction
Not only does WorldView-2 provide complete coverage of the visible to near infrared spectrum, but each of the spectral bands is very tightly focused on the target wavelengths of light, enabling a clearer segmentation of the spectral response from objects on the ground. The very high spatial resolution also provides detailed morphological and textural attributes. This additional information is leveraged by sophisticated feature extraction algorithms to produce more accurate classifiers that can segment different man-made structures, distinguish crop types or discriminate among tree types.

Accurate feature extraction is critical for civil governments, where taxation is often dependent on land use, such as changes in impermeable surfaces, or the presence of swimming pools. In addition, feature extraction plays a critical role in accurate change detection which can be a vital tool in post-disaster response coordination.
