Company Profile
DigitalGlobe® was founded in 1992 as an earth imaging and information company. That same year, it was the first company ever to receive a high resolution commercial remote sensing license from the US Government under the Land Remote Sensing Policy Act. With the launch of QuickBird in October 2001 and WorldView-1 in September 2007, DigitalGlobe became the world’s only company operating a constellation of sub meter commercial imaging satellites. Today, DigitalGlobe employs over 350 people and is leading the industry into the next generation of commercial satellite imaging. The company’s third high resolution satellite, WorldView-2 will be ready for launch at the end of 2008.
DigitalGlobe established itself as the clear market leader through the technical superiority of its satellite systems and its high standards regarding product quality, customer service and business partner relationships, as well as its entrepreneurial spirit and “easy to work with” business style.
Because DigitalGlobe was founded by geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping users, the company understands its customers’ unique needs for geospatial information products for a number of mapping and planning applications. While DigitalGlobe’s formidable leadership has ensured solid financing, world class management and legendary marketing vision, the company’s customer friendly culture positions DigitalGlobe as the industry’s “go to” provider of geospatial information products.
Business partner community
DigitalGlobe has built a worldwide business partner community to collaboratively develop, market and sell DigitalGlobe imagery and value added products and services. By partnering with companies that offer domain expertise in applications ranging from software development to custom market solutions, the company has expanded the reach of satellite imaging technologies into global arenas. DigitalGlobe’s program encourages partners to work closely with customers to meet their specific needs and maintain long term relationships, with a common vision toward expanding the market for commercial satellite imagery.

DigitalGlobe’s satellite constellation
DigitalGlobe currently operates the world’s highest resolution commercial satellite constellation with QuickBird and the first of two next generation satellites, WorldView-1. In addition, WorldView-2, the third in our constellation is scheduled for completion in 2008.
QuickBird
QuickBird orbits at an altitude of 450 kilometers, in a 98 degree, sun-synchronous orbit. The spacecraft collects the world’s highest resolution commercial imagery of the earth, and boasts the largest image size and the greatest onboard storage capacity of any other satellite. The 60 centimeter resolution of QuickBird images allows objects on the ground as small as 60 cm – or 2 feet – across to be seen.
WorldView-1
WorldView-1 orbits at an altitude of 496 kilometers in a sun-synchronous orbit. With an average revisit time of 1.7 days, WorldView-1 is capable of collecting up to 750,000 square kilometers (290,000 square miles) per day of half meter imagery. WorldView-1 is equipped with state of the art geo location accuracy capability and exhibits unprecedented agility with rapid targeting and efficient in track stereo collection.
WorldView-2
WorldView-2 is anticipated to launch in mid-2009, bringing the total number of satellites DigitalGlobe has in orbit to 3 and enabling the company to offer a constellation of spacecraft that will provide the highest collection capacity – more than 1 million square kilometers per day – of high resolution earth imagery directly to customers around the world. Additionally, WorldView-2 will provide 8 bands of multispectral for lifelike true color imagery and greater spectral applications in the mapping and monitoring markets.
Markets served
DigitalGlobe products have countless uses in market areas such as exploration and production, location based services, city and regional planning, real estate and retail, infrastructure mapping, internet portals, natural resource, environmental and humanitarian monitoring, emergency response planning defense and intelligence and 3D visual simulation.
