ImageScape
ImageScape™ 3D imagery brings yet another dimension to the real-world view of the natural landscape. With ImageScape, you can convert any image in DigitalGlobe’s vast ImageLibrary into a rich, interactive, broadcast quality 3D experience, complete with a high performance, lightweight viewer. Thanks to a partnership between DigitalGlobe and The AEgis Technologies Group, you can virtually climb the mountains and soar through the valleys of nearly anywhere on earth, without ever leaving the office.
Overview
DigitalGlobe has partnered with AEgis Technologies Group, a leader in expert modeling and simulation services, to create ImageScape, a combination of high-resolution satellite or aerial imagery, Digital Elevation Models (DEM), and software that delivers high speed viewing capabilities, analytical tools and broadcast quality outputs.
ImageScape is the superior 3D terrain model solution due to its speed, performance, size and cost:
- Imagery can be ordered from DigitalGlobe’s vast ImageLibrary of current and historical imagery, and converted into a terrain model within days as compared to weeks or months with competing services.
- The free lightweight viewer provides the same capabilities of very expensive commercial software, including advanced measurement tools, fly-through creation and broadcast quality outputs of up to 60 frames per second.
- The final file size of the terrain model is up to 1/10 of the normal size of GeoTIFF delivered imagery, allowing for extreme portability and flexibility.
- As a result of advanced computational methods and rendering algorithms developed by AEgis, the ImageScape solution can be delivered at a fraction of the cost of competing offerings.
The result is an extremely flexible and lightweight simulation environment for delivering fast modeling and analysis results.

Terrain Models |
AEgis Technologies Group applies DTED elevation data to our high-resolution imagery to rapidly create 3D terrain models. The visual representations are delivered at a full 1:1 resolution with no loss of image quality. 3D models can be derived from a single frame of satellite imagery up to a full country or region. The absolute accuracy of an ImageScape terrain model will be within one meter of the accuracy of the source imagery — 1:4800 to 1:50,000. |

ImageScape Software |
The free ImageScape software runs on any Windows-based computer. Terrain models can be viewed in both 3D and 2D at output speeds of 60 frames per second. ImageScape supports geomarkers and static elements and can import standard GIS SHP files. Additional features include celestial models for day/night effects and environment op-tions for snow, smog and rain. ImageScape’s open database model also allows you to update or expand portions of an existing model seamlessly, without recreating the entire product. |
Available Product Levels
Single Strip
A level 1 product is created from a single frame or strip of satellite imagery (GeoTIFF format). The size limit on this level product is a minimum of 250 km2 up to a single strip of imagery.
Multi Strip
The level 2 version of this product has two options.
- Multi Strip Standard: A combination of multiple satellite frames (same sensor) combined to create a single 3D database. The first option will be created from a combination of frames/strips where seam lines will be seen and color balancing is not provided between images.
- Multi Strip Ortho: Final product can be created as an add-on to a DigitalGlobe orthomosaic. Size range for this level of a product is from 1000 km2 to 9999 km2.
Mosaic
This level product is an add-on option for DigitalGlobe’s current Orthomosaic projects at the GeoCell level. One-degree by one-degree geocells have an average size of 10,000 km2. This product would typically be used to provide 3D coverage of very large areas such as country databases.
